Badinerie in Motion

Bar 1 Flute – ♩ = 120

Playing it

Hover over any note to hear it. Click a voice above to hide and mute it, or its ◎ to put it in the spotlight: the other voices keep playing but step back. Drag or scroll the lane sideways to move through the piece. Space plays and pauses, ← → jump a bar, Home goes back to the start.

To hear the harmony, pause and turn on Hold chord. Every note under the line keeps sounding until the line leaves it. Drag the line itself, or drag the score under it. ← → then step from one note to the next, and Shift + ← → jump a bar. Arpeggio (or A) switches on a running arpeggio of the held chord, up and down, that follows the line until you switch it off. Arp sets its speed in notes per second.

About the notes

All seven movements come from John Hamm's General MIDI sequence of the Orchestral Suites (1995), with five parts each: flute, violin I, violin II, viola and cello. The cello plays the continuo bass. All repeats are played, the tempo follows Hamm's own changes and ritardandos, and he added a few ornaments of his own.

You can load any other MIDI file with Load MIDI or by dropping it onto the lane. Each track becomes a voice. More scores: IMSLP.
